Thinking of you provides relief and support against poverty, suffering, sickness and distress for people who have experienced sexual, domestic or family violence, and to enhance the welfare of sufferers of this violence.
We are a volunteer not-for-profit charity organisation who provides packages of clothing and toiletries which we distribute to hospitals for sexual assault and domestic violence victims of all ages and gender. |
Our PurposeThis idea originated from our founder and president, Gloria Anderson, a survivor.
"I was first taken to the hospital where all my clothing was taken away as evidence. It was right in the middle of winter, I was handed a used, shabby and extra large men’s sweatshirt and tracksuit pants. I then was taken to another hospital across the state as the local hospital didn’t have enough resources to conduct a complete physical examination. All through this, I didn’t have any footwear and my feet were freezing. After completion of the forensic examination, I asked the doctor for a pair of socks or slippers. They found a pair of socks. I then was given two plastic bags to wear as shoes which were held up with rubber bands. I wore that for about a day or two." |
After experiencing the assault and then having to wear used, shabby old clothes Gloria recognised there was a much greater need across the board and as a result started Thinking of You - from one survivor to another.
Our packages provide people who have experienced sexual assault and domestic violence with a little bit of hope, self worth and dignity during what is possibly the worst experience in someones life.
The intention is to have all the items in the packages to be new, but not necessarily expensive. Plain t-shirt/shirts, underwear, slacks/pants, socks (all sizes) and toiletries (no razors or sharp objects as requested by the hospital). If there is a need, shoes/thongs/slippers will be provided.
We encourage donations from generous individuals or organisations who may like to donate excess goods.
